Architects Zero In on Zero Net Carbon
This winter, 3C-REN partnered with In Balance Green Consulting to bring Zero Net Carbon Design (ZNCD), an in-person training series, to architects throughout the Central Coast. Through the program, architects from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) chapters in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo learned how to integrate ZNCD into their practices.
The series was developed to fulfill new California requirements that architects must have five hours of ZNCD education as part of their license renewal. The ZNCD series covers carbon in the building industry, energy performance and renewable energy, water-savings as energy-savings, embodied carbon, and regenerative design.
After a successful turnout for the in-person events, 3C-REN is now making the series available online. If interested, you can sign-up for the following classes. All classes are scheduled from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM.
Sometimes We’re Full of Hot Air (and Hot Water)
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) recently hosted the 2023 Hot Water Forum as well as the inaugural 2023 Hot Air Forum. The joint forums convened industry experts from around the nation to explore energy efficient solutions for water heating and space conditioning.
The three-day session included 44 panels centered on themes of equity and decarbonization. Highlights included results of field testing for new 120-volt heat pump water heaters, programs designed to expand an equitable workforce, new tools to help installers select and size equipment, and lessons learned from a pilot program that temporarily swaps gas-for-gas water heaters on burnout, until an electric heat pump water heater can be installed.
Vendors lined the conference hallways, showcasing state-of-the-art water heating and HVAC equipment, diagnostic tools, educational opportunities, and reference materials for professionals. 3C-REN staff are excited to bring new ideas back to the Tri-Counties to inform future program developments and contribute to a more energy-efficient Central Coast.
