FREE In-person & Hands-on Passive House Certification Training

Tri-county building professionals now have the opportunity to become Certified Passive House Tradespersons (CPHT). Passive House building standards are all about adopting high-performance best practices and health considerations for the future. Getting trained in these construction practices will give professionals the knowledge they will need as the building industry advances.

For the past few years, hands-on, Passive House trainings were mostly based in New York or abroad. Now, thanks to the “Wild Emu” traveling trainers, 3C-REN is bringing this unique learning experience to the tri-county region in October. 3C-REN can cover the entire cost of the 5-day training (a $2000+ value) for building professionals (ideally contractors) who live or work in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties. The training will be held centrally, at Santa Barbara City College and offers Passive House Institute Tradesperson Certification.

3C-REN and Emu are excited about this opportunity to help grow a generation of construction professionals in the Central Coast who build for the future. Space is limited to 24 people–snag your spot now!

Reaching Our Energy Efficiency Goals with Reach Codes

Reach codes are a method for local jurisdictions to implement energy policies that go beyond California state standards. According to the Sierra Club, there are 59 cities across California with all-electric or gas-free reach codes–and the City of San Luis Obispo is the latest to join the list!

On July 14th, 3C-REN hosted a Central Coast Reach Codes Policy Workshop. The workshop featured speakers from the California Energy Codes and Standards Program, Frontier Energy, TRC, and Southern California Edison, along with municipal policymakers experienced in the reach code adoption process. Attendees learned about the resources available in drafting and adopting a reach code and received cost-effectiveness studies specific to Central Coast climate zones.

Central Coast jurisdictions interested in pursuing energy efficiency or electrification reach codes can connect with 3C-REN for support at any stage in the consideration, adoption, or implementation process.
