Energy Code Compliance (ECC) Rater Training and EPA 608 Certification
Here’s how to check your eligibility and get started:
3C-REN has partnered with ConSol to provide no-cost ECC Rater, EPA 608, A2L and A3, and Energy Star certifications to those who reside or work within the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, or Ventura. As of November 2025, SoCalGas funds for ECC training have been exhausted. SoCalGas customers are eligible for 3C-REN’s ECC Rater certification until funds return.

ECC Rater Training
Energy Code Compliance (ECC) Raters are special inspectors trained to perform the energy efficiency field verification and diagnostic testing required by California Energy Code (Title 24).
EPA 608 Certification
EPA 608 certification is required for technicians who handle refrigerants, ensuring safe handling practices and compliance with environmental regulations. EPA 608 certification has four types:
- Type I – servicing small appliances
- Type II – servicing high pressure appliances
- Type III – servicing low-pressure appliances
- Universal – servicing all three type
