Zoning for Heat Pumps – Strategies for Best Outcomes
Zone control is a popular strategy for addressing different climate zones in a home. Many customers and contractors newer to heat pumps are drawn to multi-split systems that utilize a single outdoor unit to run multiple air handlers, but there can be unintended comfort sacrifices if not done carefully.
Panel Detectives – Electrical Panel Assessments for Heat Pump Installers
As more California homeowners begin electrifying their homes, heat pump installers will be faced with the challenge of navigating electrical panel challenges including condition, capacity, fitment, supply chain, etc. With panel and service upgrades being costly and complex, it’s important for practitioners to understand their options for running new circuits.
People’s Self Help Housing – Heat Pump Water Heater
As California moves toward all-electric buildings, heat pump water heaters (HPWH’s) are becoming more popular because they are very efficient and don’t use natural gas. In this 2-minute video, we provide a quick overview of HPWH’s and the parts and pieces of installation.
Overcoming Installation Challenges with Heat Pumps
Heat Pumps are a big part of the solution to meeting California’s climate goals in buildings. In plain terms, they’re reversible air conditioners and have been around for over 100 years. This session is designed for HVAC contractors, builders, and others who want to understand how to install heat pumps right. We will cover how heat pumps can add value to your business, how heat pumps work and various configurations, and how to overcome common installation hurdles.
Retaining Profit – Minimize Call Backs on Heat Pump Installs
Heat pumps are inherently different than gas furnaces or gas water heaters. Contractors and other industry professionals must take time to educate customers, clients, and others on these differences to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. This webinar will outline best practices for system operation of ducted and ductless mini-splits, unitary heat pumps, and heat pump water heaters.
The Electrification Path – A Case Study
As California begins to electrify, homeowners will each have a unique path to electrification. For some, this means upgrading one appliance at a time; for others, it means replacing them all at once and offsetting with on-site solar. Regardless of the timeline, there are some important planning steps that must take place, as well as a continual vision for optimizing efficiency.

Electrification Products for the Central Coast Climate
Homeowners around the world are beginning to embrace electrification (the switch from gas-fired to electric-powered appliances). In this webinar, EMH will introduce and provide an overview of central-coast appropriate home electrification products to aid in the transition away from gas. This includes at least two electric options for each common gas appliance (e.g., HVAC, water heating, cooking, clothes drying, and fireplaces) as well as advanced electrical products that solve challenging load capacity issues.
Energy Code Implementation: Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADUs)
Having gained a solid understanding of high-performance building enclosures from classes 1 through 3 in 3C-REN’s High Performance Fundamentals series, participants are well-prepared for this class, which will provide a foundation in the use of heat pumps for both space conditioning (heating and cooling) and water heating. The class will cover what a heat pump is and explain why heat pumps are essential elements of high performance buildings. Special attention will be paid to refrigerants: how heat pumps use them, how to avoid leaks through proper installation, and why it’s important to avoid leaks due to the damage they can cause to contractor profitability and the planet. An overview will be provided to aid in selecting, sizing, installing, and commissioning heat pump equipment, so that it performs as intended. Note: You are not required to have attended classes 1 through 3 to attend this event.
TECH Clean California Program Overview
TECH Clean California is a new program offering generous incentives for heat pump technology used for space and water heating–think equipment like mini-split HVAC units and heat pump water heaters.
