High Performance Fundamentals Graduates its First Class!
Last spring, our Building Performance Training program launched its High Performance Fundamentals certificate series, a regional curriculum developed to address skilled worker shortages by teaching proven methods to reduce building emissions. These foundational classes offer valuable job skills while also tackling climate change, and they are ideal for people looking to enter the workforce as well as those who are early on in their careers as building practitioners.
Students attended class every other week from April through June, and had to pass a quiz at the end of each session to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter. Four participants successfully completed the entire six-course series and received a High Performance Fundamentals certificate:
- Marisa Hanson-Lopez (County of Santa Barbara)
- Nik Ingle (Harvest Thermal)
- Wlodek Koss (Koss Family Trust)
- Jesus Montiel (City of Carpinteria)
Congratulations, all!

Annual Energy Forum Sparks Inspiration
The 3C-REN team participated in the 14th Annual California Climate & Energy Forum earlier this summer in Santa Rosa, California. The forum is a significant event for energy enthusiasts, and an excellent opportunity for the team to bolster energy efficiency efforts, leveraging state and federal momentum to drive innovation and collaboration towards a future powered by clean energy and environmental stability for all.
Team members actively engaged in sessions focused on local practices and timely topics, with a particular emphasis on optimizing the recent windfall of policy investments. Discussions centered around ensuring the lasting impact of investments, addressing local emissions, and enhancing energy resilience in an inclusive and culturally-competent manner.
This event has added valuable insights to the 3C-REN team’s knowledge base, enabling us to further our mission of promoting energy efficiency and sustainability in the community. As we continue to implement best practices and foster cooperation, we will explore more ways to address local energy needs and reduce emissions—making a positive impact on the environment.
Stay tuned for more updates on energy-efficient practices and the team’s ongoing efforts to create a greener and more sustainable future for all.

3C-REN Announces 2024-2031 Business Plan
3C-REN is excited to kick off its 2024-2031 Business Plan! Over the next eight years we will continue to offer programs in Building Performance Training, Energy Code Connect, and Multifamily and Single-Family Home Energy Savings — updating and refining them to include the latest training, code updates, and decarbonization measures.
In addition, we will develop new programs to provide technical support for the agriculture sector, promote energy-saving measures for small and medium-sized commercial businesses and public-sector buildings, and identify potential locations for regional resiliency centers.
Of the $155 million allocated over the next eight years, at least $52 million will go toward incentives and direct savings for programs and retrofits, ensuring that ratepayer dollars positively impact local tri-county communities.
