SUMMARY:Integrating Passive House Standards with CALGreen for Multifamily Buildings - Across California’s Climate Zones
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nPassive House is the most cost-effective and reliable method to achieve Zero Energy.  The standard has been successfully delivered in every climate zone.  Using Passive House building science ensures we squeeze out as much efficiency as possible before relying on renewable energy to deliver Net Zero performance.  Many California developers are aware that Passive House protocols deliver superior energy efficiency\, IAQ\, and resilience but\, our milder climate\, particularly along the coast\, requires sophisticated analysis of key metrics to make informed choices.  \nUsing live tools and holding a new pre-certified Passive House building constant\, we will demonstrate the impacts that changing climate assumptions have on predicted energy performance.  We will walk through the five key principals of Passive House the impacts to these building attributes from the changes to climate zone.  At all times\, we will demonstrate these impacts on whole-building performance key metrics defined by Passive House.  \nBecause the Passive House standard yield broad-reaching benefits beyond energy and carbon\, we will demonstrate the building science behind benefits like indoor air quality\, thermal comfort\, acoustical benefits\, outdoor air quality\, weather events\, power outages\, etc.     \nAs project teams have gained experience with Passive House\, we will share learnings on the tools teams are using to reduce the risks of investing in sustainability and increase the likelihood of the realization of performance.   Attendees will walk away understanding the following tools:   \n\nMetrics-based Owner’s Project Requirements \nPhysics-based modeling and simulation & Open-Sourcing for Team Collaboration \nCarbon Accounting and the Decarbonization Tool \nQuality Assurance\, Quality Control\, and the Construction Schedule \n\nOnce the benefits and design challenges of Passive House are thoroughly debated using tools and evidence\, we will turn our attention to the cost consequences of Passive House.  We will use the Auros database of project data to compare project costs of traditional/code-based construction versus Passive House buildings.  We will also share available cost mitigations in the forms of CEDA\, Inflation Reduction Act tax credits and other programs available in California.    \nThe live session will demonstrate how Passive House targets can be met in the San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, San Diego\, and Sacramento Climate Zones.  \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nAttendees will be introduced to the underlying logic\, strategies\, tactics\, and tools to specify and achieve climate zone specific and optimal decarbonization\, indoor air quality and resilience in the design and construction of multifamily buildings.  \n\n\nAttendees will learn about integrated project teams developing metrics-based Owners Project Requirements (OPRs) and using physics-based modeling/simulation to identify the optimum performance (efficiency\, IAQ\, resilience\, durability\, ongoing maintenance\, and occupant experience) in different climate zones. \n\n\nAttendees will learn about the process and steps to ascertain and achieve optimum performance of the same multifamily building when designed for\, and constructed in\, San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, San Diego\, or Sacramento. \nAttendees will be informed about Federal\, state\, utility\, and other incentive programs (rebates\, tax credits\, financing options\, etc.) available for designing and constructing high-performance multifamily buildings in California.\nAttendees will be introduced to economic analysis that incorporates both first cost and ongoing value in order to ensure that the design and construction of high-performance multifamily buildings “pencil out” in any climate zone. \n\n1 AIA LU|HSW pending for this course \nEvent Hosted by:\n \nInstructors:\nBeth Eckenrode\, AUROS Group \nCraig Stevenson\, AUROS Group \nMatt Bowers\, AUROS Group

SUMMARY:Accredited Green Appraiser Training
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nReceive 14-hours of Continuing Education Hours and the Accredited Green Appraiser Certification (FREE) \nJoin us to gain a wealth of cutting-edge knowledge\, including principles and practices that distinguish green buildings from traditional buildings\, methods for appraising high-performance homes\, and approaches to solve solar-related valuation problems. Additionally\, did you know the secondary mortgage market guidelines require this competency prior to accepting an assignment? Read on for full course details and registration information. \n  \nDay 1 Course | Appraising Green Homes: Construction Methods & Trends \nTuesday\, August 22nd | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. \nThis course is designed to provide information on the rapidly expanding field of green building and introduce participants to all phases of green residential construction\, from proper siting of a home to finish material selection. The class begins with an overview of the history of green building and then explains its five key elements in detail. This will provide learners with an in-depth understanding of green building in order to equip you to competently analyze these properties in appraisal assignments. Day 1 course concludes with a discussion on green home certification programs\, guidelines and the possible impact on home appraisals. \n  \nDay 2 Course | Appraising Green Homes: Valuation Techniques and Advanced Applications \nWednesday\, August 23rd | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. \nThis course is intended to provide appraisers with the information and resources needed to make well-supported and accurate valuation decisions for green properties. Day 2 course begins with an overview of the most current data available for the valuation of green homes\, then presents the cost approach as it applies to these properties. Participants will then perform an in-depth analysis of the sales comparison approach and valuation techniques that can be applied to green properties. \nThe latter part of the day uses the valuation techniques from earlier in the day and directly applies it to appraisal case studies\, which will provide tools that can be integrated into real-world practice. Upon passing a formal exam\, the student will be able to use the designation of Accredited Green Appraiser. \n  \n9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Virtual Classroom training ** Class will begin promptly at 9:00 A \n4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Closed-Book Quiz **** Must pass the quiz with 70% of higher to earn the designation and Continuing Education Hours approved by the Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers. \n  \nContinuing Education Hours approved by the Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers Upon completion of the three required courses and successfully passing the quizzes at the end of each course with a grade of 70% or higher\, you will receive 14 Continuing Education Hours approved by the Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers. \nRequirements \n\nBy registering for this training\, you agree to take the quizzes at the end of each course.\nYou must be a licensed Appraiser and be available to take both (2) courses.\nParticipants who take all three classes and pass the exam will be listed on the Earth Advantage’s Find a Professional.\nClass will begin promptly at 9:00 am.\n\n  \nMaintaining Your Accreditation \nAppraisers must earn 4 CEs in green real estate education every 2 yrs to maintain the AGA designation: \nYour renewal deadline is 2 years from the last day of the class. Renewals then re-occur in 2-year cycles. There are several opportunities to satisfy the CE requirements: \n  \nEarth Advantage Courses \nIf you took AGA before 2012\, we highly recommend that you take the updated course again as a refresher. AGA is offered in both live and online formats. You can visit Earth Advantage’s Education Calendar to browse courses currently being offered\, or sign up for updates on other courses. CEs for an Earth Advantage course will be automatically applied to your renewal after completion.  You can browse this list of courses from other providers that Earth Advantage has approved. You will need to submit the Accreditation Renewal Form if you take a course from a provider besides Earth Advantage. \n  \nTraining Material Electronic versions of all materials needed for this training will be provided prior to the start of Day 1. Students have the option to download and print the student manuals or bring a laptop or tablet with wifi-capabilities to access the PowerPoint presentation\, student manuals\, Case Study worksheet\, etc during the training. \n  \nAttendance Policies You must attend the entire training and pass the quizzes at the end of each course in order to receive BREA credit and the Accredited Green Appraiser certification. \n  \nExam Details \nThere will be quizzes at the end of each training day. \nThere is a requirement to pass with 70% or higher in order to earn the Accredited Green Appraiser certification.
