SUMMARY:All Electric Retrofit with Electric Panel Constraints
DESCRIPTION:Register \nEvent Description \nThe building industry will need to electrify buildings at a fast pace if cities and counties are to meet their goals for reducing Carbon emissions. One of the obstacles commonly cited for keeping status quo gas systems in place is limited space in the electric panel serving the building. We will cover how electric panels are sized according to the electrical code and demonstrate tools to double-check those calculations. Options for making existing electric panels work will be covered\, including circuit sharing devices\, innovative solutions for HVAC\, clothes washing\, hot water\, cooking\, EV charging\, PV and battery systems. Often the existing electrical panel is adequate for a fully electric home\, and we will equip attendees with the knowledge to evaluate this key decision for themselves. \nLearning Objectives \n\nLearn and apply tools to calculate electric panel size according to the electrical code\nOptions for electrifying with limited electric panel space and service\nExplore real-world case studies to better understand the challenges and solutions\n\nLearning Units \n\n1.5 AIA HSW LUs approved for this course\n1.5 ICC CEUs approved for this course\n\nInstructors \n\nNick Brown\, Build Smart Group\nRobert Fortunato\, ForStrategy Consulting\n\nCourse Location\nZoom link provided upon registration

SUMMARY:Health and Resilience of Clean Energy Homes
DESCRIPTION:Register \nEvent Description \nHomeowner interest in our capacity to maintain healthy indoor air quality and increase resilience has skyrocketed since COVID and the proliferation of wildfires. Concerns around the ability to shelter in place during extreme events range from far-flung rural areas to cities. Air pollutants like respiratory viruses and wildfire smoke can be prevented from entering and overwhelming a home. The certainty of a steady supply of clean\, filtered air would mean fewer days missed from school and sports activities along with better grades for our kids\, increased performance at work for adults\, reduced medical expenses\, and positive impacts on our local economies. Health insurance companies acknowledge this and are more frequently investing in energy upgrades\, particularly in low-income housing\, as a risk reduction; proven to be more cost-effective than the expenses of emergency room care and illness. Many efficiency improvements go beyond energy savings\, they also make homes healthier and more resilient during power losses\, fires\, and extraordinary weather. It’s also possible that an efficiency project if not installed correctly\, can cause health problems. Do assets that increase home resiliency and occupant health contribute to market value? \nRE pros pursuing expertise in Clean Energy Homes will advance their knowledge of potential improvements in home health and resiliency resulting from common efficiency improvements\, expanding their credibility as expert guides for their customers. \nLearning Objectives \n\nHow common efficiency assets improve health and resiliency\nHome performance elements vital to indoor air quality\nHealthy housing principles\nSmoke infiltration prevention\nCase studies of homes that survived wildfires\nExamples of resiliency in power losses\nConsiderations in marketing and valuation\n\nLearning Units\n3.0 DRE CEUs Approved for this course\n3.0 BREA CEUs Approved for this course \nInstructor\nDebra Little\, Ajo \nCourse Location\nZoom link provided upon registration
