SUMMARY:All About ADUs for REALTORS
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n  \nTo meet the growing demand of states and municipalities creating programs and incentives that reward Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)-style development\, professionals need to be prepared to help homeowners and developers understand energy code requirements and energy efficiency opportunities\, as well as general considerations like site selection\, development process\, costs of development\, and return on investment. \n\nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn what makes a property ADU-ready/eligible\nBecome familiar with ADU design\, permitting\, and building process (attached\, detached\, garage conversion)\nLearn how to build an energy-efficient and energy code-compliant ADU\nLearn Taxation\, valuation\, and financing options for ADU\nGet answers to your ADU-specific questions and network with other professionals on this specialized topic\n\nAs a rapidly increasing number of states and municipalities are creating programs and incentives that reward ADU-style development and to meet this growing demand\, more and more professionals will need to be prepared to help homeowners and developers understand site selection\, development process\, costs of development\, and the return on investment of ADU-style structures. \nInstructors: \n\nJohn Shipman\, Franklin Energy\nSimone Dadsetan\, Franklin Energy\n\n  \nFor information about this course\, please contact education@FranklinEnergy.com

SUMMARY:High-Performance as the Baseline
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nToday\, high-performance is recognized as the future of the built environment. However\, while we continue to promote high-performance design and construction as providing significant benefits for owners\, occupants\, and the environment\, we depict it as “upgrades” that are well worth the additional investment required. It is important and urgent that we change to positioning high-performance as the baseline rather than positive options that require a premium.   \nSome percentage of people will choose to make an additional investment in order to get something better — something that they believe will meet a need\, solve a problem\, or capture an opportunity. HOWEVER\, a much higher percentage of people will refuse to give up things they perceive as valuable\, just to save some money.   \nBy positioning high-performance as the baseline\, we change the decision from whether to invest more to enjoy the benefits of high-performance — to what they would be willing to sacrifice in order to save a little money. They are forced to decide what to give up — energy efficiency\, healthy indoor air quality\, comfort\, resilience\, durability\, lower cost of maintenance\, environmental responsibility\, etc. Not easy choices.  \nThis workshop will explore: The elements of high-performance and the benefits that they provide\, the underlying logic of choosing the aspirational approach of what is possible\, and several ways to make the case that the right and smart decision is to start with high-performance as the baseline.  \nLearning Objectives  \n\nAttendees will recognize and be able to explain the performance continuum from code compliance\, through prescriptive standards\, to evidence-based high-performance.  \nAttendees will be able describe the elements of high-performance design and construction\, as well as the benefits that they provide to owners\, occupants\, and the environment. \nAttendees will learn to apply selected consultative selling concepts and skills to connect the elements of high-performance to the needs\, priorities\, and preferences of owners and occupants. \nAttendees will be provided with the underlying logic and several examples of ways to position and present the elements of high-performance as the standard… the baseline for the built environment. \n\n1.5 AIA|HSW LU available for this event \nInstructors: \n\nJay Gentry\, CCT\, Inc.

SUMMARY:Shifts in Power: Ensuring the IRA\, 2022 Energy Code\, and California’s Climate Policies Benefit the Tri-County Region!
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nEvent Description: \nLandmark Federal and State economic policies and record amounts of climate funding are revolutionizing the California energy and building sectors. To be at the forefront of this shift\, 3C-REN is convening local energy efficiency and green building advocates to ensure that the region is prepared to benefit from these opportunities and address any challenges. \nIn this Forum\, participants will explore how California’s climate funding and the new energy code will change the way buildings are constructed throughout the state. Attendees will establish a foundation for strategic coordination and partnership to successfully capture the financial incentives and resources provided through the Inflation Reduction Act and other opportunities. \nJoin us in-person at The Monday Club (1815 Monterey St\, San Luis Obispo\, CA 93401). Refreshments and a full lunch will be served. We hope to see you there! \nAfter attending this forum\, participants will be able to:   \n\nAnalyze how new federal and state economic policies will impact the local building and energy industry.\nIdentify strategies\, resources\, and partners that can best serve the energy and workforce needs for low-income\, disadvantaged\, and rural communities.\nExplain how the energy code will inform future building construction practices and funding opportunities.\nPlan on connecting with industry professionals and advocates supporting energy efficiency in the tri-county region.\n\nEvent Documents \n\nView Event Slides\nWorld Cafe Notes\nFall Forum Research\nHow to Set up the Region for Success
