DESCRIPTION:  \nREGISTER\nDescription: The tri-county region has begun addressing the increasing need for livable space by constructing accessory dwelling units (ADUs)\, tiny homes\, prefabricated homes\, and other nontraditional housing elements to accommodate housing needs and affordability.  \nHow will area building professionals handle the growing need for energy efficiency in these dynamic housing types?  \nThe current energy code and future iterations provide streamlined compliance for housing project development.  \nIn this forum\, attendees will learn about energy code requirements\, zoning\, and permitting for nontraditional housing projects. Speakers will highlight housing market impacts and strategies for improving comfort and efficiency in various building types. \n  \nSpeaker Meet & Greet Following the Forum \nContinue the conversation with a virtual speaker meet and greet from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. \n  \nAfter attending this forum\, participants will be able to: \n\n\n\nDefine the term densification and explore the state and local policy landscape.\nExplain how the energy code has enabled densification to become more streamlined and accessible.\nIdentify opportunities for building professionals to integrate energy-efficiency in nontraditional housing projects.\nInvestigate how energy efficiency in densification impacts project costs and the potential for more affordable housing innovation. \nPlan on connecting with industry professionals supporting energy efficiency in the residential sector.\n\n\n\n  \n2.0 AIA and ICC learning units pending for this event. \n\nSpeakers\nSean Armstrong\nPartner\, Project Manager and ZNE Design Manager\, Redwood Energy\n  \n\n  \nSean Armstrong taught net-zero design at a demonstration house at Humboldt State University from 1999-2002\, and has 12\,000+ hours of experience as staff Project Manager with affordable housing developers Pacific Communities\, Danco Communities\, and the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Arcata. Sean was the first developer to use the California Utility Allowance Calculator (CUAC). \n  \nVina Lustado\nFounder and Owner\, Sol Haus Design\n  \n\n  \nVina Lustado is the founder/owner of Sol Haus Design\, a boutique design firm based in California. With a professional architecture degree and more than 20 years in high-end corporate architecture\, Vina decided to focus her career on smaller-scale projects that could make a positive difference. Staying true to her core values\, Vina has completed the design and construction of her Tiny House. Equipped with simple luxuries\, Vina has manifested her dream home in 140 square feet. Vina’s home has garnered a lot of attention and has been featured in media publications\, books and television. Since living tiny for many years\, Vina has been a passionate advocate for tiny homes as alternative housing solutions. \n  \nChristopher Olvera \nSupervisor\, Outreach and Education Unit\, California Energy Commission\n  \n\n  \nChristopher Olvera is the supervisor of the California Energy Commission’s Outreach and Education Unit which develops tools\, presentations\, and resources to support compliance and enforcement with the Energy Code. Chris has over 18 years of experience working at the Energy Commission. He began work as a student on the Energy Standards Hotline fielding questions about the Energy Code from designers\, builders\, and enforcement agencies statewide. Chris has served in several other positions supporting a variety of programs\, including: the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) program; the Acceptance Test Technician Certification Provider (ATTCP) program; processing low interest Energy Conservation Assistance Act (ECAA) loans; the Bright Schools program; and facilitating upgrades per the Clean Energy Jobs Act (Proposition 39). \n  \nJohn Shipman\nSenior Director\, National Business Education\, Workforce Education & Training\, Franklin Energy Services\n  \n\n  \nJohn oversees outside external education\, training and professional development activities for Franklin Energy Services. An award-winning\, nationally recognized thought leader and instructor\, specializing in building science\, healthy buildings\, network collaboration and social equity based workforce education & training and professional development. Additionally\, John is a pioneer in green real estate innovation & practices and recipient of the NAR Evergreen Award.
