SUMMARY:Energy Code Implementation: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
DESCRIPTION:Register \nEnergy Code Implementation: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) \nSince the energy code update took effect in January 2023\, the industry is adjusting to design\, detailing and construction to meet compliance. In this series\, we’ll review the code requirements with a focus on what to include in construction documents to streamline the permitting process and tips for construction to ease signoffs and occupancy. \n\nEnergy Code Implementation: Single Family New Construction\nEnergy Code Implementation: Single Family Additions and Alterations\nEnergy Code Implementation: ADUs (this course!)\nEnergy Code Implementation: Multi-Family\nEnergy Code Implementation: Non-Residential \n\nLearning objectives \n\nUnderstand the current metrics and standards used in the energy code for evaluating energy performance and indoor air quality\, and how choices for electric or gas equipment may impact compliance with those standards.\nWithin each building type\, review key mandatory measures related to energy performance\, ventilation\, refrigerants and insulation and review potential challenges for integration into design and construction.\nReview the prescriptive “recipe card” approach versus a building performance approach and discuss when to use each strategy to best incorporate energy efficiency and healthy interior environments into the specific project design.\nRecognize where barriers or stumbling blocks may occur within permitting and construction and tips for documentation to smooth out the process\, ultimately increasing the energy efficiency\, health and safety of our buildings.\n\nLearning Units \n1.5 AIA HSW LU approved for this course0.15 ICC CEU approved for this course \nInstructors \nJennifer Rennick\, In Balance Green ConsultingGrant Murphy\, In Balance Green Consulting

SUMMARY:3C-REN Regional Forum: The Past\, Present\, and Future of HERS Raters
DESCRIPTION:Register \nEvent Description: \nThe 2025 code cycle will see large revisions to the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rating program. To prepare attendees to understand these changes\, this virtual forum will first introduce the history of HERS Rating\, what the program has accomplished\, and why HERS Rating is important for code compliance. With this knowledge\, attendees will be ready to learn what changes are anticipated for the 2025 code cycle and how it will impact their work.  \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter attending this forum\, participants will be able to summarize the history of the HERS Rating Program in California\, identify how and why HERS Raters are important for home energy efficiency and code compliance\, and explain the coming changes to the HERS Rating Program in the 2025 code cycle. \nPanelists:  \nDavid Choo\, Director of Compliance\, CalCERTS \nRob Starr\, Director of Technical Services\, CHEERS \nJavier Saucedo\, Local HERS Rater\, County of Ventura \nMike Little\, Local HERS Rater\, Central Coast
